I can’t understand what it is with “mazariner”, they’re delicious! (mazarin= short bread crust filled with something almond(y), iced with pink/white icing) My mom, sister and I had “fika” at one of my favorite cafés in Malmö. My sister had the cake with the strawberry on :)
Yesterday I had coffee at Grannens (translated: The Neighbor), a café not far from here. The funny thing is that the girl who works there (seems like every day) speaks English, Or no, maybe it’s not funny, and not very strange either, but at least different.
I don’t know if I like the place or not, but the piece of cake (spice cake) I bought yesterday was good. It was just annoying that I couldn’t decide if it was made from scratch or if it was made from cake mix, and since I took it with me I couldn’t ask..
Whatever, took it with me, and got it in a little plastic box :) usually you get a paper bag. I thought it was kind of funny.
Maybe I should say that currently I eat more unhealthy stuff than normally (I KNOW it’s no good) because I want to put on some weight. My troublesome tooth made me lose 2 kg. I’m still thankful that it’s over, gosh that was not fun at all :)
Whooo! I saw an advertising about a baking competition on a Swedish Tv-channel called Sjuan (channel seven). I sent an application, and they e-mailed me back and said they wanted to know more about me. So it means I’m among a group of people who might be in the tv-show. Pretty cool :) Honestly I don’t think they will choose me, but it was fun that they e-mailed me back. it doesn’t happen every day.
If everything was possible, I would like to arrange the biggest coffee-and-cake-picnic ever, and invite every one I know, and every one they know too. That would be awesome! :)
Look at these birds, you see them all over the city, but I don’t know if they can fly. I guess they can haha! because it would take ages for them to walk. Maybe they’re just lazy :)
Today I bought a KeepCup from Espresso House. With a pink lid, of course. The weather is getting warmer, and I really like to drink my coffee outside. The good thing with this is that you can bring your own cup with you to the coffee shops, which is kind of Eco friendly. At least they say so :)
Lately I’ve been posting about coffee. As you can see in the post below, we make our coffee the very old fashioned way, but it tastes good.
Today when I was at the hair saloon having my hair cut, I glanced through a magazine and saw an add about this company – KeepCup. I WANT ONE. You order on-line, and you can choose which colors you want on it. Like pink :) It’s Eco friendly, not black (like all the other take away cups), it comes in 4 different sizes (good for me who only want a small cup, and it fits in your bag), it doesn’t leak, and it’s kind of cute. (http://www.keepcup.com/)
If I had a Mocca Master on top of this, life would be just a little little bit better..
Last week Starbucks opened in Malmö, I think that’s the third one in Sweden, so far. Everyone is like “OMG! OMG! Starbucks, Starbucks, Starbucks!” So you think it’s something special (note: I’ve been to Starbucks in London before, AND, I’m not going crazy over anything like a coffee shop). Last Saturday Erik and I went there and he bought us two cups of coffee, and then you realize..hrrmm.. ok.. there’s a Starbucks clone in Sweden called Espresso House, which everyone says is just a decent place. BUT, in comprehension with the coffee I got on Starbucks, they’re so much better. (note: I liked their coffee before, and I still do). Yep, Starbucks fans throw angry words at me, but I think I like Espresso House better.
Last week Erik and I made hazelnut muffins. Erik got a bottle of coffee syrup for Christmas (a present from his brother), but we decided to something more fun than just add the syrup to coffee. Use your favorite basic muffin recipe, mix 1 dl (about 1/3 cup) almonds until they are finely chopped. Substitute the almonds for 1/3 cup of the flour. Add 1 tablespoon of coffee syrup (I guess vanilla, chocolate syryp etc. works just as fine).
I can’t believe how some cookies can taste so good. Like this one, which not is one of the most expensive cookies. But it’s pink, and it tastes like cookies did 15 years ago, maybe that’s why I lik them..
I was on a job interview today, it was fun! I think there were like 30 other people wh also had applied for the job, but you never know. I can only hope for the best.
Then, on my way from there to the bus I fell, head over heals, but backwards. There was a frozen puddle with snow on, of course, why? Why do I live in this icy country? No one saw me, that’s good. My wrist and hand hurts, that’s’ bad, but I think it’ll be better in a couple of days :)
There was three women who interviewed us fo 2,5 minutes each. They asked me if I was still living with my parents. No I don’t. And I haven’t done that since.. I can’t remember but 4 years maybe.. I really hope I wasn’t rude, because sometimes when people ask me I put too much stress on the NO! :) It was not my intention.
I got a Triss lott today, and won 50kr. That’s not much, but t’s something. 5 l milk, or a magazine, or 2,5 kg of apples, or 1 top/t-shirt from H&M, or 5 coffee cups from IKEA, or 2 cups of coffee from Espresso House.
Starbucks will open at the central station in Malmö in maybe 2 or 4 weeks. Every teen from the area (and all their friends, and everyone they know, and probably everyone else too) will be there. I’ll wait until the storm is over. I really want a take-way cup from there, because they’re airtight and coffeetight, but I’ll wait. At least 2 months ;)
I saw this cup of coffee the other day in school. Honestly, who wants to drink that haha! Funny is that he (the man who was cleaning) pushed that thing around without thinking about the coffee.. Amazing it didn’t end up on the floor ;)
Today I went to a café just down the street and had coffee and a (huge) cookie (I bet that’s the cookie every child wants, and you “sholdn’t” really choose it if you are 12 years or older, but I don’t really care). It was really nice. I sat there reading blogs on my laptop. The things there are pretty expensive, the coffee is good, not excellent, but I kind of like it anyway. Here are some pictures. Enjoy.
(I don’t like that WordPress puts all the pictures so close to each other..)
Friday: I had migraine again, but decided: It’s enough! at least it helped a little. In the afternoon I was working – I was driving a BMW to a place where they sell cars, and back again (the family bought a new car), and that was pretty much fun. Alexandra wants a BMW (NOW), someone.. please? Give me five years and I’ll have one :) for sure.. ha ha!
I came home, made tuna salad, was really good, and did some homework (read: I begun reading, but started thinking about 10 000 other things) ha ha! I had a cup (glass) of tea (I love Lipton green tea orient).. and that was pretty much it.. this is where the fun part begins.. ha ha!
Saturday I decided to go to Malmö because I wanted to buy a new watch so I actually can see what time it is! Watches without numbers look better, but..hmm I’m tired of coming to the bus stop 5 minutes early. I went to Triangeln, because I thought: today I’m going to do what students normally do – they buy something cheap. I can’t buy a 2300kr watch if I’m a student ha ha! I have a friend who works at Ur & Penn (they sell watches and crappy jewelry), her name is Åsa. We talked too much and the other customers got pretty fed up because they had to wait ha ha! but it was fun.
Then I thought: ahhh someone is worth “köpekaffe” (a cup of coffee) so I went to Espresso House, and I had to buy a muffin too :). When I had taken the first bite my phone rings, it was my dad, and first I thought: no I won’t pick up the phone.. but .. I did.. and he asked where I was and I think I said I was at every place in Malmö except from at a Café having like the best day in this year so far. My parents would kill me if I told them was I was doing, ha ha! Lucky me I’m still alive. (compare this with: (I could have said) I’m smoking something I don’t know what it is, and I think I’m pregnant (which I didn’t say, and didn’t do)).
On my way back to the “bus stop” I saw this guy playing – I thought it was pretty cool :)
Then I went to Åhlens and bought an eye shadow, I did something drastic and bought something colorful, not. And a mascara that turned out to be crap, I hate those plastic brushes.
This is the watch I bought.
Then I went to Mobilia, because I wanted to buy flowers (notice how much money I have spent so far) and then I see this: Hygienic baskets, free from bacteria. OK??? What do they do with them. I guess they could spend money on other hings, but it’s a funny idea ;)
Ok, watch this. It’s a drive thru for pets (some kind of grooming thing hahah!) . If I was from Mars I think I would believe that you should leave you dog and they would (what do you call it when you fix and style the dogs fur) and then when it was ready it would come through that metal door thing to the left.
I watched a movie, lying in bed, eating lunch (pancakes) then I put on a facial mud mask (makes everyone looks so incredibly good, when you have it on your face ;) ), and watched another movie (I bought 5 new movies Thursday, 20kr/st – not expensive at all!!!). I spent this weekend putting on weight lol!
Now I made a pie with zucchini, bell peppers and mushrooms + salad and avocado, and a delicious garlic dressing that I got for free!! when I was shopping groceries. Might not look good, but it was. You can also see the flower I bought :) (I can’t wait for the spring, it’s still too cold to plant daffodils outside)
And to end this, of course I had some gelé hjärtan. This weekend I did absolutely NOTHING. That was just so good, because I haven’t been home (not working or doing 10 000 other thins) since last year! Even if this upcoming week will suck, try to move me! The funny thing is that I didn’t do anything special, I was not extremely social, but it felt good :). The gelé hjärta looks so freaking NOT delicious, ha ha ha!
This is what I bought at Ikea today. Four boxes and one coffee cup. I wanted to see if I liked that cup before I buy some more. I don’t like those kind of cups that goes into 14 000 pieces too easily. I just had a cup of hot cocoa and I think I like it ;)
Yesterday I had a cinnamon roll and a latte.. mm.. that was delicious, even though the cinnamon roll tasted cheap. I have discovered that there is a bakery just next to the local grocery store, the only good thing with that is that I NEVER have cash, and ONLY pay with my card. People get very mad at me when I buy something that costs 7 kr (not even $1) and I want to pay with my card.. this means that I’ll only buy something when I have cash, and that is not very often..
Today I made biscotti. I think the others liked them. Usually I don’t add as much sugar as it says in the recipe, because I don’t like them too sweet, but today I forgot to do that. But they taste good anyway.. Really simple to make too, and that’s why I share the recipe. (I use dl, but if you want to convert into cups click here. Ex. if you want to type in 1,5 you have to type it like 1.5 (not comma)).
75g almonds
40g butter
1,5dl white sugar
1 large egg, or 2 small eggs
3,5dl flour (+ some extra)
1/2 table spoon (tbs) baking powder
1 tbs vanilla (I used vanilla powder)
Put the oven on 200 degrees celsius. When it’s hot, put the almonds on a baking sheet and roast them for approximately 5 minutes, but watch them carefully so they don’t burn.
Mix the sugar and the butter until light and “fluffy” add the egg (eggs) and mix. Chop the almonds and add them to the “batter”, add the flour (mixed with the baking powder and vanilla (if you are using vanilla powder). Mix.
Make two rolls (use some extra flour, it should be sticky), put them on a baking sheet (use waxed paper), use your finger tips to flatten out the dough. Put in the oven until golden, for about 15 minutes. Then take out the baking stick, cut the lengths in as big pieces as you like, spread them out, put them back into the oven, but don’t close the door fully. Wait until they are cold (they’ll dry in the oven), if you can. Store them in an airtight container in room temperature.
And then, I just want to show you how everything started. Yesterday, I remembered I had this picture somewhere, and now I have found it. I think it’s so funny! First I look like a boy, second look at what the ladies are wearing!, I don’t know what to say, it’s horrible. When I was younger my grandma was looking after me when my parents were working. They had these kinds of ”kaffe rep” every week, my grandma (my mom’s mother) and her friends, and I joined in too ha ha! They taught me how to sew too.. This is usually something I don’t talk about because I think it’s embarrassing, but life is about giving and taking, right? (I’m laughing)
