I think this (Romantic Anonymous) must be (together with melancholia) my favorite movie this year, so far. The movie is French, which I like. It’s something with the fact that I don’t understand what they day that I like.. and French movies they’re always strange in some way, which I also like.

This movie is about Angélique who is a “chocolatier” – the best of them all, but she is also a highly emotional person. Her personality trait is something she shares with her new employer, but they don’t know that – either of them. Everything develops into a pretty humorous and awkward story – which is both loving and entertaining. I can recommend this movie too :)

Melancholia – a movie worth watching.

Last week I rented 3 movies, and if you do, you can keep them for a week. One of the was Melancholia. I have to say I really lied it, even though it’s very strange at some parts. It’s directed by Lars Von Trier, and Kirsten Dunst and Alexander Skarsgård has two of the main roles. It’s said that they didn’t have a script and that the director just said.. oh say something like this, and hey say something like that haha! I don’t know, but the actors do a great job. It’s kind of interesting because it was filmed not so far away from where I lived before (at Tjolöholm, on the west coast of Sweden).

Justine (Kirsten Dunst) and Michael (Alexander Skarsgård) is getting married and the party is held in a castle (her dress is just gorgeous, makes me want to get married). A lot of things happens, and you understand not everything is as it should between all the family members. And then you think: ah that’s why this movies is called Melancholia, but nope! An enormous planet is moving towards earth, that’s the planet Melancholia..

I can really recommend this movie, watch it :)

Three Movies I watched During the Weekend; The fountain, Winter’s Bone, and Last Night.

I have watched three movies this weekend, so far. First one was The Fountain. A really strange movie. This is something I found about it on Wikipedia:

The film begins with a paraphrase of Genesis 3:24, the Biblical passage that reflects the The Fall of Man. Hugh Jackman emphasized the importance of the Fall in the film: “The moment Adam and Eve ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, humans started to experience life as we all experience it now, which is life and death, poor and wealthy, pain and pleasure, good and evil. We live in a world of duality. Husband, wife, we relate everything. And much of our lives are spent not wanting to die, be poor, experience pain. It’s what the movie’s about.”Aronofsky also interpreted the story of Genesis as the definition of mortality for humanity. He inquired of the Fall, “If they had drank from the Tree of Life [instead of the Tree of Knowledge] what would have separated them from their maker? So what makes us human is actually death. It’s what makes us special.”

I think I give this movie 2 A:s of 5, but this is a movie you have to spend some time thinking upon, because it’s a weird story. Maybe I’ll change my mind about it in a week or so.

Second movie I watched was Winter’s Bone. The movie is very well done, I just didn’t like the chainsaw part, but without it the movie wouldn’t be as good as it is. I give it 3,5 or maybe 4 A:s of 5.

The third movie I watched was Last Night (2010). It was beautiful in some way, and I actually liked it. I think you can describe it with the word silence. I give it 3,5 A.s of 5. Joanna (Keira Knightly) and Alex (they meet outside a café and they hadn’t seen each other for 2 years) is really close friends, and while Joanna’s husband is away they spend time together. At one point she thinks Alex’s comes to close, and she says “no, I can’t do this to Michael (her husband)” and I think that’s kind. While this is happening Michael is having an “affair” with a woman from work. Joanna and Alex falls asleep besides each other, and that’s just so sweet. Later Michael decides to go back earlier from his business trip because he regrets what he did. I just have to add that I don’t really think the role Eva Mendes has suits her.

Blue Valentine – Make it a “To-watch”

This movie is in some way beautiful, or how should I explain it. I read in Metro that it took 12 years to finish it. Sounds like an incredibly long time. This movie shows the development of a marriage, and how things can change. A thought I got after watching it was: trust your gut feeling.

The movie stretches over a longer period of time, and I think that gives it an interesting  dimension, I usually don’t like this kind of cross-cutting, but in this case it’s very well done. Now it sounds like I know a lot about movies, ha ha! Which I don’t, I just don’t like tv haha! And then I give my opinion on it, isn’t that just stupid ha ha!

Honestly, this might be an odd thing to write, but in this case I think it works: I think you should watch it and see what you think. I think this movie will get better reviews that it might deserve, but in spite of that I give it 4 A:s of 5.

Vicky Christina Barcelona – Thiiis iiis an Ooodd Mooovie.

Vicky Cristina Barelona. This is a strange movie, the question is why did I watch it? I don’t know. Probably because I watched Lost in Translation the other day, and I was suggested this movie because Scarlett Johansson plays in this one too. (That picture is just so bad with all the Chineese signs on it ha ha!)

I have to say that the characters are very interesting, but I don’t know what to say about the story/plot. Sometimes I find it odd that there’s a narrating voice in a movie, someone that tells the story for you. In this case it was needed, because it’s the narrator who brings all the pieces together – gives an understandable explanation to the story.

If I should be very straight forward I would say that this story is something a pretty old (kind of pervert) man put together during a pretty long time. Maybe this has to do with age, I think that if I had been 45 instead of 25 I would have seen the story from a different view. The end is in some way strange too, but also expected – what kind of end do you expect from a movie like this one? I give this movie 1 A of 5. That’s just my opinion, that doesn’t say anything about if this movie is well done or not. I would love to hear your opinion if you have watched this movie.

 I don’t know, it might have been because I was tired, but I thought I heard the same lines twice in the movie when Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz) tells Cristina (Scarlet Johansson) that she has looked through all her pictures.

What on earth made me watch this movie, I don’t know? Maybe because it was very very early in the day. Ok, first I should say, I didn’t expect much. This is a movie for people under 18 (or am I wrong?), or let’s say 20, who enjoy seeing people having sex, just almost. I watched 15 minutes, then I watched 5 minutes in the middle of the movie, and 2 minutes at the end. That was enough. I’ve seen worse, but this was no good. I give this movie 1,5 A:s of 5. There is some potential, and I guess that if you’re 15 you like this hrmm cr(hrm)ap. If you’re thinking about watching this movie, watch I Love You Man instead – that movie is funny! and makes you laugh :).

Lost in Translation – Watch it Again.

I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and a runny nose. Unfortunately. This meant I woke up at 4:20 AM and then I couldn’t sleep. The good thing with this is that my internet connection is working on that time of the day :). And all this meant I watched Lost in Translation, again, I think this was the thirds time.

First time, I hated it. Second time I was so bored that I watched it, but didn’t think much of it until yesterday. Third time, I like it. The story is about two people, can we describe them as lonely? Maybe not lonely, but alone in some way. A  young girl and an older man. They meet in Tokyo, at a hotel.

The movie has some kind of silence over it and that is what I like with it.  Just as it has some parts that I find quite boring (like when they both are at a party somewhere in the city). What I like most, must be the end. I like how he changes his mind, or is it coincidence, when he sees her in the street and decides to run after her just to say good-bye. I think that is kind of sweet. I give this movie 4,5 A:s of 5 possible. I just remembered that I really like the view from Charlotte’s (Scarlett Johansson’s) window at the hotel – beautiful.

This also makes me think that maybe, it’s good sometimes to re-read and re-watch things, because only then can you see the things you didn’t see last time. How often do we read a book twice? We buy a new book instead. My new motto is re-read, and re-watch, at least once ;).

Going the Distance (review) – What is This?

I read a magazine the other week, not a magazine for girls a magazine for women, and it said: Watch this movie, it’s fun, humorous, witty, and sweet. Do I agree, no. It feels like I’m too hard, but listen. I like Drew Barrymore as an actor, the only problem in this case is that she is at least 10 years too old for this role. The role she has would be perfect for a 18 years old. This doesn’t mean that I think she is too old, but that she could do a better job if she got a role that suited her better. 

The story is about Erin and Garret who has a distance relationship, but in spite of this they don’t move together (why? Move, for god’s sake). It works fine in the beginning, but then they break up.. blah blah blah.. and in the end (yes I’ll reveal the end so you don’t have to watch the whole movie, which I didn’t do either because I skipped some parts because I was bored..) they become a couple again. Erin (lives in her sister’s house) and when she takes Garret home (the last scene) they walk through the door, and she says: let’s be adults (last time they were at her sister’s house they had sex on the dinner table. Let’s be adults! Let’s get out of here would be a better line..) they hear a strange noise, turn on the light and find the sister and her husband on the table. Then their daughter comes down the stairs and asks what they are doing. That was just the worst end ever, because I guess it was meant to be funny, which it wasn’t.

I wouldn’t have thought this movie was good even if  I had watched it 10 years ago. I don’t even think my sister likes this – that means it’s bad.

I’ll give this movie 1 A of 5 possible. If you’re thinking about watching this movie, watch Music and Lyrics instead.

The King’s Speech – This is a Movie Worth Watching

It was a while ago, but finally, I didn’t regret that I watched this movie.

King George IV (Colin Firth) has a problem – he can’t hold a speech without stammering. Through the movie his father passes away, his brother becomes king, but circumstances make George the king. To stammer might seem like a minor problem, but not in this case. George’s wife turns to a speech therapist because she wants him to help her husband. At first he is sceptical, but the speech therapist, Geoffrey, convinces him and that is the start of a cooperation and life long friendship.

Colin Firth does a really good job, he is crying, laughing, he is angry, and brave – looks very realistic :). It’s interesting to see this improvement when it comes to holding speeches, and I really like the end. George the VI is an interesting character because he shows  personality, and is true to both himself and to people around him.

Often we don’t see those people who are doing all the work behind everything, in this case the king’s speech therapist. I like that they appreciate him for what he did. Even though it was his job to “cure” the king from his stammering - which is something “small” that little thing can change so much. This movie has a good story (even though I think the beginning was a bit boring), the actors do a great job, and some parts really give you a good laugh. I give this movie 4,5 A:s of 5 possible.

I think we should do that more often – appreciate the small things. It doesn’t cost much, more than a few words, but to someone it might mean something.

Eat, Pray, Love = Three Verbs

 One more movie. I read this book some months ago, and I didn’t like it, at all! The main character (I’m terrible at remembering names) who is doing the journey (in the movie Julia Roberts) was pictured (if you ask me) as a too ”solid” person with too little feelings. It was also written in first person which made it boring to read.

Anyways, back to the movie. Eat, Pray, Love. I actually think it’s hard to decide if this movie is good or not. The actors do a pretty good job, pretty good, and it’s OK. But something is missing. I guess the company you have plays a role, this is a movie you should watch all by your self when you are bored and it’s raining outside – because then it’ll seem good in comparison with everything else. Or, you should watch it with someone you like, because then you’ll be in good company and that’s always fun – more fun than the movie.

I guess I learned something from this movie. After all the movie has a pretty happy ending. When a movie ends in a good way you’ll leave with a good feeling in your body (who doesn’t want to feel good). What I need to learn is: Eat – I would like to love food :) more than I do today. Currently I’m just eating because I have to, and that’s just so boring! Pray – I don’t go to church, and Jesus and all that is not my thing, but I need to focus on some things and not do all the other things that I don’t really care about that just make me tired (I know it’s my thoughts about the things that makes me tired, but sometimes it’s fun to play up), Love – (I’m not just talking about love as - love someone, but love when it’s about .. (gosh I’m just so fuzzy, that’s because I’m tired).. something else that I don’t have words for hahahaha! LOL!) Full STOP! I’ll give this movie 2,5 A:s of 5 possible. And that’s fair :)
